Why Is Fast Food Bad For You? Reasons/Causes for Junk Food Popularity In America
Fast food consumption today has reached an all time high. There are several reasons for it popularity. North Americans live a fast paced lifestyle and are often looking for a satisfying meal that is quick and convenient. Fast food is usually served immediately or within a few minutes and restaurants are only moments away.
There is another reason that fast food is so popular. It is highly addictive. Fast food contains ingredients that impact serotonin levels in the body causing an insatiable desire for more. Regular consumers find that after a meal they experience unpleasant symptoms such as depression and foul moods that won’t subside until they get another dose of fast food.
Most fast food addicts would love to discover that it helps shed pounds, increases energy and promote long life. The truth is that fast foods is just bad. It contain little if any nutritional value, which is nullified by its toxicity. Most people today consider fast food to be unhealthy but do not realize how bad it really is. It is the leading cause of overweight and obesity in North America, which are now closely linked to heart disease, stroke and cancer.
Thirty percent of North American children are obese today, which is a rise of fifty percent in the last twenty years. With the high availability of fast food and super sizes, kids are eating mostly unhealthy foods and eating too much of it. Eating a diet that primarily consists of empty nutrient, high calorie food also effects behavior and intelligence.
One North American school concerned with the behavior problems and lack of academic achievement among students decided to remove fast food from the cafeteria and vending machines and provide only nutritious foods to see what impact it might have on the students. The change was remarkable. Those students that regularly ate in the cafeteria experienced a significant decrease in behavioral problems and increase in academic performance.
Fast food is loaded with carcinogens. It contains toxins created from reused and reheated oils, it is high in calories and is the principle source of trans-fatty acids. Trans- fatty acids are man-made fats which are much more toxic to human health than saturated fats. An intake as low as one percent of total daily calories is considered to be a high risk for heart disease and other serious health conditions.
Many fast food establishments are working hard to satisfy public demand for healthy fast food choices. If fast food is a necessary part of your life, exploring these menu options may be the easiest and most effective method to slowly and gradually break the addiction to fast food.

We live in such a hurried life style that many parents find this fast food as there cook. I don't eat fast food much anymore but when I was in my 20's and 30's I ate it way too much. I think once anyone starts eating healthier, the thought of fast food is growse. thx
The problem is that nowadays, no one has the time to go home and cook. ife has become so hectic, and that's why we all resort to fast food and believe me no one can resist it even you.. It's so unhealthy and can damage your body, but what's the alternative?
Great topic. On occasion I treat myself to McDonalds. Most of the time my consumption of fast food is pizza or Chinese food. I've heard many times over that pizza is the healthiest fast food.
I watched a TV program not to long ago about how schools are changing how children eat. The cafeteria cooks mostly disagreed with the changes but that's because they were not open to a healthy changes. Their main concern was time. Tough. Making changes and adjustments takes time to master and over time (just like anything else) we get faster and more productive with time. The food the kids were receiving was joke. Processed foods which save time but the well-being of the children was in my eyes not being taken into consideration. If you can fry up some process food you can grill white meat chicken. If you can fry french fries you can easily cook up a batch of healthy rice (not fried rice) and add a side dish of fresh fruit or pudding cups made with skim milk.
It's nice to know someone else actually has noticed that obesity and health problems start with the young eating what they are given. Feed the children more healthy foods and they will grow to enjoy them later on in life. A no brainer.
I am basing my school persuasive report about why fast food is bad for u and I am using your hub page for my info.

Fast food is so full of salt and fat and most important, calories. They hide extra calories inside the fast food. Even in the salads!

It is not so easy to let go of what one is used to. The children need to be informed so that their children can get informed and so forth.
It is alright, once in a while.
