Remove Age Spots From the Face and Body Naturally: Liver Function And More

The skin is a reflection of what is happening inside the body. Whenever skin problems occur, they are an indication of a underlying health condition in the body. Age spots, also known as liver spots are flat brown, black or gray spots that range in size from freckle size to over one centimeter wide. They can develop anywhere on the body, but most commonly are found on the back, arms, shoulders and face. Age spots on the face are often accompanied by dry skin, wrinkles and red veins on the nose, cheeks and ears. They are so named because they usually begin to occur after the age of forty, although they can effect younger individuals. The fair skinned are more likely to develop age spots than those with darker skin. A better name for age spots would be sun spots or liver spots because they are usually caused by the sun or liver toxicity. A person in their twenties can develop age spots if they spend enough time in the sun or have a toxic liver do to unhealthy diet, high exposure to toxins and a sedentary lifestyle. Age spot do not cause immediate harm. However, if the spots are darkly pigmented, have irregular borders, are rapidly increasing in size or have varying colors, see your dermatologist immediately.

Age Spots and the Sun

The body produces a substance called melanin, responsible for protecting the body from the harmful rays of the sun which can lead to cancer. Darker skinned individuals are capable of producing more melanin than fair skinned individuals and therefore have greater protection from sun rays. The inability of faired skinned individuals to produce adequate amounts of melanin is what causes the development of age spots.

The best treatment for sun induced age spots is always prevention. A large portion of sun related skin damage leading to age spots occurs while driving. Although UVB rays (rays that cause sun burn) cannot penetrate window glass, UVA rays (the rays which that lead to age spots) can. Whether the sun is shining or it is a cloudy day, you are being exposed to UVA rays. A good way to cut down on UVA exposure is to install UVA protective film on car windows.

The face should be protected from the sun, 365 day per year. Before heading outdoors both men and woman should apply a healthy, anti-aging face skin moisturizer which contains SPF protection. For woman I highly recommend Arbonne RE9 Advance. For men, the RE9 men’s line. When sun bathing, Arbonne sunscreen lotion is an excellent choice because it is good for your skin. It should be applied at least 20 minutes before going outdoors so that the skin has time to absorb the lotion. Reapply lotion once an hour while in the sun. The sun’s rays are most potent between the hours of 10 to 4 so avoid the sun as much as possible during these hours. Tanning lamps should be avoided because they also produce sun spots over time and have been found to greatly increase the risk of melanoma.

There are several forms of treatment available which include derabrasion, cryotherapy, chemical skin peels, bleaching and laser removal. These options are expensive as well as unpleasant and they won’t prevent more age spots from developing. However, an effective and relatively inexpensive, healthy option for treatment is Revelage Concentrated Age Spot Minimizer. This is not a quick fix but is effective over time. Several weeks to several month may pass before a noticeable difference is observed. For more information about this product click here.

Age Spots and the Liver

If age spots are due to impaired liver function, the liver needs to be cleansed and dietary changes must be made. If other health conditions are present, it is a good indicator that the liver may be responsible for age spots as well. Daily exposure to toxins from the environment, skin care products and processed foods and the absence of nutrition will soon cause the liver to become toxic. New research has found that high intensity, resistance training has the ability to enhance the antioxidants effective at preventing the onset of age spots and other disorders caused by oxidative stress. Healthy individuals will find this to be an excellent way to help prevent age spots and premature aging. Combining exercise with other forms of prevention will allow you retain a youthful and blemish free appearance for years to come.

Whether age spots are present or not, prevention should always be practiced. Not only will age spots and premature aging be avoided but many other more serious conditions as well.

Good advice. I have been using a face cream with SPF 15 every single day for years and I think it has really helped keep me looking younger (almost 60 now) and I always put it on the backs of my hands as well.

Gotta smile, Steve!

That stuff would no doubt work for those little age spots and all, but what can a person do when they are covered, head to toe, in one huge age spot (the kind that accompanies an abundance of years)?

Gus :-)))

Gus, you have your work cut out for you. You could just focus on prevention to reduce oxidation and it's effects on the body.

Steve, I got some interesting news for you. Most Black people don't get aged spots. What we do get are moles and dark skinned Black people don't rinkle. I have never researched why. Maybe one day I will. Wanted to share that.

Thanks for your comment Betty!

The reason you don't get age spots is because darker skinned individuals have much higher amount of melanin produced when exposed to the sun. Melanin prevents the harmful effects of the sun from penetrating and damaging the skin and this prevents it prevents oxidation which leads to age spots.

I have been using Made from Earth products for many years. I am in my late fifties and no wrinkles yet. Yes, many factors contribute to healthy skin such as using sun block, a healthy diet and exercise. But their Olive Night Cream definitely helped to lighten age spots. You can spend a lot more on other miracle cream. But this is a great product for a reasonable price. I use their Vitamin Moisturizer in the winter. This cream has worked well for me over the years.

If you're looking for a natural remedy, applying Aloe Vera gel to age spots can be an effective way reduce their appearance and gentle enough for all skin types.
