The Truth about Vitamin Tablets
66There has been an ongoing debate for a number of years regarding the effectiveness of vitamin tablets. Some health experts claim that vitamin tablets are a waste of money because they pass right through the body without being absorbed. Others say that it depends on how the tablets were manufactured. As long as the tablet is not to densely packed digestion and absorption is not a problem.
People don't like swallowing horse pills so manufacturers try to make tablets as compact and easy to swallow as possible. The problem this creates is a tablet that is so tightly bound that it cannot be disintegrated and absorbed before it passes through the body.
A good test to see if a vitamin tablet will absorb in your stomach is to try to take a small bite out of it or put a crack in it with your teeth. If it feels like a rock you know it's not going to be absorbed in your stomach. You will find some manufacturers have pharmeuceutical grade vitamin tablets. This means they have been proven to completely breakdown in your stomach within 1/2 hour.
There is a lot of infommercial hype about liquid vitamins being more absorbable than vitamin tablets or capsules. This is true only in the case of the poorly manufactured vitamin tablets that goes right through the body. The truth is liquid vitamins may be absorbed more quickly but not more effectively.
The advantage of taking liquid vitamins is not having to swallow pills. The disadvantage may be the taste. This is the first step to choosing effective vitamin supplements. When you have found a company that has a highly absorbably product the next step is to make sure the product contains vitamins from quality sources in adequate amounts per dose.

Great information. We have been teaching this for years. Good to know that others are sharing this truth.
Steve, Can you get what you take over the counter? I have digestive problems due to a botched surgery. I stay anemic to the point of having to have Iron iv's. No vitamins seem to get into my system. Any advice would truely be appreciated. Thanks! Great hub!
nicely written steve
Great information to know, thanks!
Very Nice! I cannot aford the Airborn brand right now... any suggestions as to what I could get over the counter?
Great info, Steve!
Hi,That's an awesome article you have on vitamin tablets, my friend!By the way, thanks for dropping by at my article! see ya!
Thanks,Steve!
Vitamin tablets are useful in few conditions. All healthy persons must use natural sources like vegetables, eggs cereals etc to fulfill need of vitamins. I believe all allopathic medicines are harmful in long run
Interesting about liquid vitamins not necessarily being more effective (as you stated, the infomercials say the opposite). I have had a couple of vit. tabs that caused some stomach problems (was told it was the way they were milled). There is much to learn and I guess what is good for one is not necessarily good for the next person. Interesting. Voted/rated.

Are there any good VItD TABLETS not softgels available, I would like to avoic gels
I take vitamins everyday to boost my immune system. They pass right through the body without being absorbed? Yes all excess will be waste. Tablets have large amount of mineral than our body needs (RDA) so most of the excess are waste but that is natural. If you take more than the RDA, adverse effects happen especially A-D-E-K vitamins (fat soluble vitamins)
Excellent hub - it had never occurred to me that the daily multivitamin I am taking may not be getting processed adequately. I'll have to do some research to see what is available near me that will do a better job.

Thanks for the info Steve. I really didn't know this. Is there a brand you feel that absorbes better than most? I do take vitamin supplements so now I will have to do the bite test.
