Very nice and imformative hub.
I have invasive breast cancer and it was one of the recommended juices from the cancer treatment diet I was given, along with mangosteen and acai berry. Great hub!
Thanks for another great and informative hub - we tend to take pomegranates for granted - I have a tree in our garden. I didn't realise just how good it was!
If you do have access to fresh pomegrantes, the fruit tastes great in a salad when combined with boiled and diced beetroot, tossed with vinaigrette dressing.
Well, Steve, the juice of the bitter variety is a shade of green. Some say the taste is due the fruit not ripening to a desired level since no fertilizer is used. Others say the sweetness of the first variety is caused by the action of the fertilizer. I am sure your research will provide more info on this topic. You know it is also hailed as the fruit from Paradise!
Anyways thanks for the valuable info.
Great hub, Steve, as always. You're the HubPages health expert... as far I'm concerned.
The first time I ever heard about the health benefits of pomegranate juice a friend approached me in a market, handed me one of those little tags that comes attached to POMWonderful, and said "read this." I've been drinking pomegranate juice ever since.
And our idiot landscaper ripped out my fruitful pomeganate trees.... Much of the same benefits can be derived from consuming Nopal cactus - cooked strips used in tacos, salads, soups etc. by the Aztecs and Mexicans today. In Mexico you can buy Nopal supplements in capsules.

I really like pomegranete juice. it is showing up in many beverages now with teas, and combos with blueberry and other juices. I have even heard of a pom and OJ martini, which may not be your idea of a healthful drink-- but it could be a step in the right direction.
Good cause I love it!
Pomegranate juice and vodka make a great sundowner :)
This is very informative!
Thanks very much for the article. Have heard about it before and have also tried it too. Great hub.
Interesting - we have some Pomegranate trees. Time to get the juicer out!
Thanks for that.
This is an informative article. Thank you. I used to only drink pomegranate juice with vodka, but gave up the alcohol and made the same drink without it. Now I'm addicted. Glad to know it's so healthy.

Great hub! very informative
I love pomegranate juice--now I have one more reason to go out and buy it. Great hub!
Great info. My children and I have found that we love this juice. Now I have more reasons to drink it.
Thank you so much.
About a year ago, when I turned 70, my blood pressure was inching up to around 84 over 140, not bad, but a caution sign. My doc recommended pom juice. Have a glass every morning. My last BP reading was 71 over 122.
Great hub...thanks for the additional info.
Cheers! Pomegranate juice has a tang like no other...must be those anti-oxidants.
Great hub Steve I happen to have a promegranate Tree growing at my house .
I've not had any in years, but I'll give it a try again tommorow.
I am glad to learn it. It is worth a try.
I'm an expecting mother and I've been drinking the juice simply because its an antioxident and it tastes so good. But I always get it mixed with another juice. I have never tried it by itself. Guess I'm going to the store tomorrow. Thanks for the great hub.
I've been drinking Pom Juice for about 2 months now. I drink about 3-4 ounces every morning. I read where this juice lowers blood pressure and might not mix with certain blood pressure medicines. What does anyone know about this? I take a blood pressure medication and would be sad if I had to stop drinking Pom Juice. Thanks in advance for any help with this question.
Great hub and great advice. I love pomegranates.
Natural food including all fruits always help human organism to achieve high immunity and fitness. I suggest pomegranate juice mixing with sweet mandarins for a unique taste as well. :))
I found pomegranate juice great for lowering blood pressure but I'm concerned about the sugar as I am glucose intolerant and due to have some tests and I didn't want raised levels. Anyone know whether it does or doesn't do this?
Hardening of the arteries (plaque buildup) runs in my family. At age 60 the plaque buildup in the arteries in my brain was so bad I was walking around in a fog and felt 90 years old. I read the Israeli research that showed pomegranate juice reduced the plaque buildup already there and prevents further plaque from sticking to the arteries..After 5 months of drinking pomegranate juice (the kind that needs refrigeration in the stores)my head started to clear up..I'm now 68 years old and I feel like I did when I was 40..It truly was a miracle for me! I also eat wild blueberries that are very high in antioxidant.
One more time all that can be said is thank you , for your time helping others to live a fuller life.May all the good you do come back to you . May all your dreams come true. Sharon e Dix
About 2 months ago my sperm count was under a million, so on a tip from my nutrition store owner I started drinking Pom. Well, 3 weeks later it measured 8 million! So I kept it up, and the real kicker? Last week the news came: we're pregnant! I think you can add another string to the pomegranate juice bow!
I bought some Pom for the first time yesterday and had some straight away. Whilst drinking it I started to feel a little bit sick. I did not think more about until this morning when I had a big glass of it. I only got half ways and then I was sick.
I tend to feel sick when I drink green tea to and I am now wondering whether it is the antioxidants or the pesticides that makes me feel and be sick?!
Thank you very much for all this very important information stevemark :)
I gave my daughter pomegranate juice as a treatment for acne. I was worried that I should consult a doctor first, but it looks like that wasn't necessary! I'm going to try it for everything now :)
I'm really liking the electrolytes in pomegranate juice... I was in a minor road accident 5 years ago, but with the help of Pom I'm slowly getting some of the muscle tone in my left calf back. Great!
People can learn more by reading your hubs. great information. :)
One NEGATIVE not mentioned is the high sugar content and pre- and diabetes 2. I presume that the Fruit is a better choice. Please comment. Thank you
I have a tree and pomegranates have ripened and not sweet like ones you get at Walmart and other places,is it a different type or is there something to do to make them sweet when ripe
I am absolutely addicted to Pomegranates. I hadn't had one since jr. high and then right before Thanksgiving this year I started having a pomegranate every single day. Now that the season is over, I'm at a loss. I don't care too much for the juice, but I'll have to give it a shot. I can't wait for a nice, fresh pomegranate. Did anyone answer the sugar issue with drinking the juice?
Great info - I like to sprinkle the seeds on salads. I'll get some juice now too!
Praise the Lord with all fruits HE create for us!

Very informative indeed. Pharmecutical guys are hell bent on suppressing information like this.
Although the juice has a sweet flavor, there is one variety of which the juice is bitter. I guess this is from trees on which no fertiliser has been used.
Probably the PH value of the juice is well above 7, since you say it kills cancer cells on contact. Have you heard of the other variety, the bitter one?
